Dear sisters of the revolution,

I have started work on a zine for Sisters of Revolution and would like to form a group for artistic / writing collaborations. The zine will be monthly, printed on A5, black and white and distributed at gig venues and universities/libraries around the UK.

I have some ideas on what the zine will be like, i.e. I want the zine to be an informative resource, promoting female centric bands and their releases, this includes reviewing demos, EPs and full lengths. Plus I will be going along to gigs and arranging interviews with bands. There will be pieces about musicianship e.g. guitar and bass tabs, how to make a DIY recording of your music and historical features on musical movements, people in rock, punk and electro-clash.

Most importantly the zine is going to be a collaborative effort of the Sisters of Revolution. I think to take this project to the next level we need to demonstrate our strength and skill as a collective. Some people, specifically some guys, have criticised my efforts, saying that “we won’t get at them” by “sitting on our asses”. Is that a challenge I hear my lad? The zine is the next level, and all female gig nights are also in the works. Bare in mind these kind of developments require funding which I am working on raising because I believe in women, because I love music.

The revolution is coming out onto the streets, and if you want to get together and contribute in anyway whatsoever then e-mail me through the Sisters of Revolution myspace or directly @ laura@riotgrrrlonline.zzn.com

Riot. Love. Revolution for a third wave.

I sent the email below to some women friends of mine recently. I wanted to see if they had responses to my questions and also to see if they had questions for me and for other women. I learned so much and got so much strength from this conversation. I'd love to see it continue and move into other areas. If YOU want to participate in the conversation – and oh how I hope you do – please email me your responses and I'll incorporate them into the zine and pass them on!

Hi lovelies.

I am feeling crazy today and I had an idea about how to deal with that. I have questions. I thought - what if instead of asking Abby, I'd ask a bunch of you, since Abby wouldn't have a clue about these things. And we are experts on our own lives, yes?

You don't have to have the answers. Responses would be fabulous. So would more questions.

You could put your name under responses or be anonymous or be someone with a different name. I would like to put Qs and As in a zine that might spark more Qs and As. Don't worry about minding your Ps and Qs, though. Let it rip.

How does resistance/creation of better things happen in everyday ways? I need your advice.

1. How do I deal with hierarchical bullshit at work? How do we have more power in the workplace? Big strategies? Little tricks?

2. How do we live in retirement if we haven't had a typical (?) work life with a 401K? Plans? Tricks?

3. How do we do friendships when political stances are different? When I hang out with one friend it seems to always involve consumption - shopping, food, spending money. I hardly notice it and then I do. How do we address disconnections in friendships?

4. What do we do if we see how the domination model has worked its way into so many areas of our lives but we don't want to do battle all the time?

5. How do artists (that have to have jobs) practically and psychically survive in this culture? How to work on being really free, limitless, and get the bills paid at the same time? Compartmentalize? Hate work more?

UK Zine Distros

Online Zine Resources

This is by no means a definitive list of resources. If you have any to recommend, please get in touch at manifestadistro@gmail.com. I've only listed UK distros as directories of US/international distros seem quite readily available on the internet already.

If you would like to link the Manifesta distro to your site, go ahead!
